Professional project management is a vital success factor for Siemens. Almost half of Siemens revenues are derived from project business, and more than 15000 project managers work for our customers’ worldwide everyday.
Customers expect their projects to be managed in an excellent, innovative and responsible way and this applies especially to large projects and turnkey projects. Therefore, our goal is to continually improve our project-related processes.
Siemens supports the development of professional, best in class project managers through its own project management framework, PM@Siemens and the Certified Practising Project Manager certification offered by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).
Siemens alignment with AIPM is an important part of our customer value proposition. “Our commitment to achieving excellence in project management competencies is demonstrated by our alignment with a nationally recognised training institution” says Mr Scott Williams, Siemens Executive Manager, Project Management.
Siemens has identified eighty project managers that will participate in the PM@Siemens program over the next few years.
“The PM@Siemens program involves a three day training course, a ninety minute exam and a ninety minute presentation with an assessment board. Preparation for the assessment board can take up to twenty hours of the project managers own time” Mr Williams said.
In addition to PM@Siemens, project managers will also undertake the Continual Professional Development (CPD) program with AIPM. The CPD program assists project managers to learn from best practice examples and advance their skills and expertise throughout their working life.
There are currently 42 project managers participating in the CPD program, with 16 project managers having already achieved their Certified Practising Project Manager certification.
The accreditation of our project managers is a major step towards achieving our goal of continually improving our project related processes. In a time of demographic change, urbanisation and climate change and globalisation, we want to operate with greater speed and flexibility, less complexity, and most of all with more focus on our customers.
“Project managers will now have a clear development plan and career path and have the ability to further promote best practice sharing through a dedicated Project Management community” added Mr Williams.
Siemens is a technology-based solutions provider and has been active in the Australian and New Zealand market for more than 135 years. By continuously developing competencies and working with AIPM, the continuous improvement of project-related processes, methods and tools will deliver positive outcomes for customers and also gives Siemens the opportunity to tap into our full project management potential.
